Missionary Highlight - Brenda Poulson
From the most recent newsletter, July 2021:
Dear Church Family,
Hello from the jungle again! Thanks so much for praying for us especially during these nearly three weeks with Lindy here at Marari doing comprehension checking of some of the passages in Genesis to finish that part of the translation work of this book to finally get it printed, hopefully soon. Coy and Lindy have been mostly working with Elfrasio & Enaldinho (brothers - Safira's nephews) and Duane & Osieo (brothers from the Monopi roundhouse, over an hour hike away)… all new believers in the last few years. The translation checking is going well but please keep praying, as they work long hours. They are taking a break today. We had a good meeting this morning and Coy taught from Ephesians 6:1-3 about obeying your parents. About 12 believers were present and Safira's dad came again. Please pray for Enoque's understanding and acceptance of the Truth.
Please keep praying for Ezekiel, he's had another health crisis these days: pain in his lower back, joints and weakness. Lindy went with me the other day to visit Ezekiel and pray for him and this morning early Marta and I went to his house as Safira was fixing their breakfast. Later they had gone to their garden and we were really glad Ezekiel got out of his hammock, even though he's still weak. The health organization wanted to send him to town for exams but he didn't want to face the trip yet. He and Safira will be flying out on the 28th or before, as she needs to have a dr. visit and get more medication for the chronic hepatitis she must always treat.
These days I've been helping with the first grade class, as the teacher, Madilson, recently returned from Boa Vista so has some catching up to do. The 13 students are so enthusiastic and fun to watch. :) Because of the pandemic the Secretary of Education of Barcelos (the town we are registered in) is cramming 2 years into one, so the 2021 school year began in the middle of June. The three teachers have been doing their grading/paperwork but we need to help and orientate them. Marta and Miriam have been helping the other two teachers, Eliseu and Reginaldo, as they each teach two grades and have a lot of students! Marta has been having them memorize some of the verses in Psalm 139, as it's obvious that they don't have an awareness of God's constant presence and care in their lives. But they are learning! We made little notebooks (decorated with photos from calendars:)) for the students who already read and write to copy some of the verses and take home. Please pray for God's Word to take root in their hearts.
"I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Your works are wonderful, I know that full well." Ps. 139:14
With a grateful heart,
Brenda Poulson
