What’s Happening at CVBC

  • Are you able to share some encouragement? All those at Comforts of Home Assisted Living are in quarantine again and they’ve asked for our prayers. You can write a note in a card for a resident/staff member of C.O.H. today. We have cards out on a table in the foyer and will be delivering them tomorrow (Monday, Dec. 28).

  • Sunday School is starting January 17th! There will be donuts and juice provided in the classrooms (4K-5th grade).  Registration is still open on the CVBC website under Children’s Ministry.

  • Bible Reading Plans: As the New Year approaches, we want to ask you to reflect upon your last year’s Bible reading and to plan for the upcoming year’s Bible reading. The primary way in which followers of Jesus look more like Jesus is through the reading, meditating, and applying of His Word. So, we want to encourage you to plan for 2021 to be a year where you read and marinate in Scripture. To help you do this, we have a few suggested Bible Reading Plans for you. These are available in the foyer at the Ministry Table.

  • It’s that time of year again! Check your church mailboxes for 2021 wall calendars and maybe some Christmas cards/letters. Come in during the week if that works better for you.

  • FREEDOM Recovery meets 3x weekly: Tues.-1pm, Thurs.-7pm, and Sat.-8am. We use the Life Recovery Bible 12-Step Program. Join us! Contact Jerry at (715) 379-0200 or email gsolfest@gmail.com.

Jim Walton

Dallas, TX

Wycliffe “active retirement”: Consultant & resource help to Muinane and Achagua language/translation programs.

 Excerpt from Jim’s year-end report:

My present ministry is primarily assisting in the translation checking of Muinane materials, and facilitating the work of a Muinane lady that Jan led to Christ as a young girl and her Colombian national husband, and to assist them with their ministry to the Achagua people and the Achagua church.

Because of the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic most churches and ministries have seen unprecedented struggles, and unparalleled opportunities for advancement this and the coming year. The virus has claimed the lives of some Achagua Indians and the sick are many and more are still getting sick. They stay in the same community to get well, as most have no way to get to a hospital. The Achagua church struggles after a time of revival, followed by a number of people being drawn away by an alleged “prophetess” and her claims of visions, dreams, blessings and cursing, and promise of riches and wealth for those who followed and gave money to her. After much prayer, some who left are returning, and those who remained have continued to travel to the indigenous communities of Walabó, El Bamboo, Morichal, Morichalito, Tapaojo and another village. These villages are from the Piapoco, Sicuane and Salibas tribes. It is expected that many visitors from these places will attend the church’s yearly evangelistic campaign.

I was unable to accomplish all that I had hoped in 2020, due partly to a heart attack in July, resulting in open heart surgery, and need for some time to recover. Thankfully, translation checking is not physically demanding!

Major ministry goals for the next 12 months:

  • That I will rest in God’s promises and in all things have the mind of Christ.

  • Translate and communicate between ministry partners of Colombian national missionaries, Edgar and Clementina Buenaventura, regarding accomplishments and ministry endeavors, as well as their personal and ministry needs.

  • Maintain and broaden contacts with individuals from the Muinane tribal group with which we lived and worked in Colombia.

  • Comparison consultant checks of Muinane Proverbs concentrating on the aspect of tone and importance level in publishing Muinane Scripture.
