SERMON: Dependence on Jesus
Mark 9:14-29
Main Point: Faith requires _____________________ for faith is nothing but _________________ on Jesus.
The Bad Example: The Disciples’ Lack of Dependence
The Good Example: The Father’s Humble Dependence
The Act of Dependence: Prayer
The One You Can Fully Depend On: Jesus
Small Group Questions:
What is something that stood out to you from this passage or sermon?
What is the bad example of the disciples and what is the good example of the father? Where can you err like the disciples?
How does prayer bring you to greater dependence on Jesus? In what other ways can you better depend upon Jesus daily?

Ministry Highlight: BOY SCOUTS
CVBC’s Boy Scout Troop 72 has the same standards it has had since its inception in 2001, despite some changes in the national organization.
It is a ministry of CVBC whose goal is to use outdoor adventure as a tool to teach godly values and build character in young men.
The troop is open to any boy eleven years old or older; no experience needed. They meet on most Monday nights (when not in a pandemic) from 7:00-8:30 p.m., and try to spend at least one weekend a month (when it can be done safely regarding health restrictions) on some adventure such as wilderness backpacking, canoe-camping, bicycle trips, winter cabin-camping, hikes, service projects and other camping and outdoor activities.
The troop was very active last summer, since outdoor activities are still relatively safe. They did two backpacking trips on the Ice Age Trail, a bike trip to Durand, and a canoe trip on the Namekagon River.
Meetings were held outside in the pavilion through September. When COVID-19 numbers started surging in October, the troop decided to cancel all winter cabin campouts and indoor meetings. They had one sledding night at Pinehurst and plan to do more of those, and they plan to do more outdoor campouts and hikes once the snow melts. Above all, they are still planning to do another amazing 12-day trek of high-altitude backpacking at PHILMONT in New Mexico in June.
